Our Team of Immigration Professionals
Greg Willoughby leads our Immigration Law Department. He restricts his law practice to Canadian immigration and refugee law. He is a Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a past Executive of the Immigration Lawyers Section of the Ontario Bar Association, and a Member of the Canadian Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Greg Willoughby is an Adjunct Professor of Immigration and Refugee Law at the University of Western Ontario and has been a lecturer of Immigration and Refugee Law at Fanshawe College. He is an annual lecturer of Immigration law at the Ontario Crown Attorney training conferences and is regularly requested to provide legal information to other professional organizations. He has written numerous articles about immigration and refugee law and appears as a Panelist at Provincial and National Immigration Law Conferences.

Our goal is to provide excellent legal services to every client. Our commitment to excellence includes the following promises:

- To keep all clients fully aware of the progress of their file at all times;

- To provide understandable, predictable, and reasonable fee accounts for all services;
- To respond to all concerns and questions in a prompt, professional, and effective manner;
- To provide our best opinion regarding the options and chances of success on a file before any action is taken or any expenses incurred;
- To commence and complete our services in a timely and accommodating manner.
We ask that our clients hold us to these commitments. We also ask for your understanding when legal emergencies occur that may interrupt our normal flow of services. Given the nature of our immigration practice we are sometimes required to provide emergency services where clients are detained, deported, or unfairly denied admission to a country. These situations are relatively rare and we usually have the resources to deal with such circumstances. On occasion, however, we must respond to an emergency situation in a manner that may inconvenience our other clients. We ask for your understanding and accommodation in such circumstances.
Service Satisfaction Guarantee
As a further commitment to our excellence in legal services we have undertaken the unprecedented step of providing a Service Satisfaction Guarantee. This is a simple guarantee that provides for the full return of the money you have paid for our legal services if you are not satisfied with the level of professional services you receive. We know of no other law firm that provides a Service Satisfaction Guarantee. We cannot guarantee the outcome of a legal proceeding, but we can guarantee that we will provide the best legal services possible.
Billing Procedures
All of our immigration legal services are based on a block billing arrangement. This means that we will tell you exactly how much we will be billing for our legal services before any costs are incurred. This avoids the often unpredictable nature of legal costs. Some costs, however, are not included in our fees and include Immigration Application or Court filing fees; and any third-party disbursements (couriers, translations, travel, etc). These necessary costs will be added to the accounts for the legal services. These amounts will be billed to you when they are incurred.
Different fee arrangements and payment plans can be arranged depending on the nature of the file and the needs of the clients. We do, however, request that all accounts be paid promptly and fully so that we can avoid the uncomfortable issue of unpaid accounts. Further legal services will not be provided if accounts remain unpaid.
Retainers and Legal Service Agreements
We require that Legal Service Agreements be reviewed and signed by all clients before any legal services are provided. This allows for a clear understanding of our services to be provided and the fees to be paid. We also require that financial retainers be provided before our legal services are commenced. The usual financial retainer consists of 50% of the full legal fees. Financial retainers are held in trust until the legal services are provided. This allows us to cover the costs of initial disbursements and to focus our time and efforts on clients who committed to pursuing their immigration needs. A wise lawyer once said "The payment of a retainer lets the client know they have a lawyer and the lawyer know they have a client."
